What Is A “Scratch Choir?”

Community Choirs UK believe that everyone should have a voice. In other words, it’s time to get singing! We enable people from all backgrounds, whether they have musical ability or not, to come together and enjoy singing and performing in one of our Community Choirs.

Occasionally we will organise a “scratch choir” – in other words, in the space of one day, we put together a large community choir from scratch for a “one off” performance at a larger venue. We invite anyone to come and learn song arrangements “from scratch” during the course of the day, under instruction from our voice coaches and members of our regular Community Choirs.

There are no auditions. You just need to bring yourself, with a lot of enthusiasm – and a packed lunch!

Community Choirs UKWhat About Music?

You do not need to be able to read music. We will teach you the songs using our “sing and repeat” method. The songs we sing vary in style – Pop, Rock and Soul and Gospel. Our regular Community Choirs sing songs like: “Price Tag” Jessie J, “One Love” Bob Marley, “Stand By Me” Ben E.King; “Hallelujah” Leonard Cohen; “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”; “Next To Me” Emele Sande; “How Long Will I Love You?” Ellie Goulding etc. Songs From “Oliver”; “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”; “Mama Mia!” etc…

We give people the opportunity to be involved in a truly unique musical event packed full of ‘feel good factor!’

We also have some interesting venues lined up for future Scratch Choir performances.
